Jurassic World Was Awesome… Until I Watched It Again.
It blew me away back in 2015 — the action, the dinosaurs, the nostalgia — it freakin' worked. But on rewatch? Things aren't quite as rosy. Its still enjoyable...but not nearly as much as it once was.
In this video, I take an objective, deep dive into Jurassic World, breaking down 3 things it does really well and 3 things that aged poorly like weaponizing velociraptors. Whether I love or hate a movie, I stay grounded by calling out the good and the bad. That’s the only way for me to be balanced with these critiques!
🎯 What holds up?
The story’s core concept — opening the park and using genetic hybrids like the Indominus Rex — feels like a smart evolution of the franchise.
There’s well-executed nostalgia (especially the old Visitor Center sequence).
And the set pieces — like the pteranodon attack, the gyrosphere scene, and the final raptor/T. rex vs. Indominus showdown — are fast, flashy, and fun.
⚠️ But on rewatch, cracks start to show:
The tone is all over the place, with emotional beats constantly undercut by forced one-liners.
Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) have great chemistry and witty banter, but their characterizations feel unbalanced and one-note.
And eventually, the nostalgia overload stops feeling earned and starts feeling like a crutch.
Despite a strong cast and memorable action, the film has a weird hollowness underneath it all, like it’s built more for the trailer than the story.
