ശിവനും അർജ്ജുനനും തമ്മിലുള്ള ഐതിഹ്യമായ യുദ്ധത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് മനസ്സിലാക്കുക, അവിടെ പാർവതിയുടെ ഇച്ഛയാൽ അമ്പുകൾ തേച്ചി പൂക്കളായി മാറി. ദേവി ഇവിടെ "ത്വരിത" (അനുഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ വേഗത്തിൽ നൽകാൻ ധൃതിപ്പെടുന്നവൾ) ആയി ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, കാരണം അവൾ ശിവനോട് അർജ്ജുനന് ദിവ്യായുധം വേഗത്തിൽ നൽകാൻ നിർബന്ധിച്ചു.
ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് ജഗത്ഗുരു ശങ്കരാചാര്യർ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു, അദ്ദേഹം ധ്യാനത്തിലൂടെ ദിവ്യ സാന്നിധ്യം കണ്ടെത്തി. ദേവി ദിവസത്തിലുടനീളം മൂന്ന് രൂപങ്ങളിൽ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു: വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനും കരിയറിനുമായി രാവിലെ വിദ്യാ ദുർഗ (സരസ്വതി), ആരോഗ്യത്തിനും ഐക്യത്തിനുമായി ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് ത്വരിത രൂപത്തിലുള്ള വനദുർഗ, സമ്പത്തിനും സമൃദ്ധിക്കുമായി വൈകുന്നേരം ആദി ദുർഗ (മൂലദുർഗ ലക്ഷ്മി).
