Roasts number 2 and 3 on the Kaldi! Same Colombian beans as before, only this time we attempt to push the machine to its limits with a 400 gram roast followed immediately by a 215 gram roast! As I said in the video, I don't think roasting at the upper limits of this roaster, or any roaster for that matter, is such a good idea as you get a few oddball beans that are way too light or too dark to be bagged and used. In comparison with the 200g roast, the consistency was visible. Going forward, if I need to roast a larger batch, it will likely be around the 250-300g zone at the very most, but we will see how that statement ages as I gain more experience! As promised, I will share the weight loss of both roasts here! Roast 1: 400g - 337g... 15.75% mass lost Roast 2: 215g - 180g... 16.28% mass lost All in all, very pleased with these roasts! I'm really excited to make some drinks with them.. Ah and yes a quick update about the previous roast we did in the last video: I used them exclusively with the V60 and it has been really delicious! I read after the fact (and before this roast) that Colombian coffee is best roasted around light or medium as it brings out lots more floral and tea-like flavors, and from the 5 or so V60s I've made, I can definitely relay those tasting notes. These roasts, especially the larger of the two, I plan to cover a few more diversities like espresso, lattes, more V60s and maybe an Aeropress.. though in all honesty I don't really use the Aeropress that much. Anyway, thanks again for watching, I know this was an absurdly long video, but I really enjoyed documenting these roasts and sharing them with other curious individuals! Comment away, I'll be happy to chat with you about it!
