In this video, Dr. G, a clinical and forensic psychologist, analyzes Karen Read's body language as she reacts to critical testimony during her high-profile retrial. With a focus on facial expressions, posture, and involuntary movements, Dr. G breaks down how Read's nonverbal cues may reflect attempts at emotional regulation. This is the second trial for Read, who is accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, by allegedly hitting him with her SUV and leaving him outside during a snowstorm in 2022. As the courtroom drama unfolds, Dr. G provides expert insight into what Karen Read's body language might reveal about her mental state, reactions to witness statements, and the overall pressure of the trial.

On Day 10 of Karen Read’s retrial, held on May 6, 2025, the prosecution presented digital forensic evidence highlighting the tumultuous nature of Read's relationship with her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe. Massachusetts State Police Trooper Nicholas Guarino testified that between 12:33 a.m. and 6:03 a.m. on January 29, 2022, Read made 44 phone calls to O’Keefe, leaving eight voicemails filled with profanity and accusations of infidelity. One voicemail included Read stating, “I f–king hate you,” suggesting intense emotional distress and anger. Additionally, the jury viewed police body camera footage from the morning O’Keefe’s body was discovered outside a residence in Canton, Massachusetts.

Karen Read is currently undergoing her second trial for the alleged murder of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, whose body was discovered outside a fellow officer’s home during a snowstorm in January 2022. Prosecutors contend that Read, after a night of drinking, struck O’Keefe with her SUV and left him to die. They have presented evidence including broken taillight fragments found near the body, elevated blood alcohol levels, and voicemails in which Read expressed anger toward O’Keefe. Additionally, witnesses have testified that Read admitted to hitting O’Keefe at the scene.

The defense argues that Read is being framed to protect others, suggesting that O’Keefe was killed inside the house where he was found and that the scene was staged. They have highlighted alleged investigative misconduct, including claims of evidence mishandling and biased behavior by investigators. The first trial in 2024 ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury. The retrial, which began in April 2025, continues to draw significant public attention as both sides present their cases.
