King Edward I was born on in 1239, at Westminster Palace to King Henry III and Eleanor of Provence. His early years were marked by political instability in England following his grandfather King John’s controversial reign. Edward’s youth was characterized by the political turmoil of his father's reign, including civil strife and the Welsh Revolt. He participated in a Crusade to the Holy Land, which faced significant challenges and ultimately ended in 1272. Edward's reign ended with a mixed legacy. He was known for both his administrative achievements and his harsh policies, including the expulsion of Jews from England. His efforts to conquer Scotland and the impact of his rule had lasting historical significance.
