My buddy Sam (active indie game developer and co-writer of more recent videos) and I have been trying to get a podcast off the ground for months. Here's one of the first sessions we were both happy with (originally a Patreon exclusive).
TECHNICAL NOTES FROM SAM:
1) Hire fans: For the curious, the full suite of tools, we used a combo of RenderDoc (also supports extensions for mesh exports), NinjaRipper, and Prince of Persia modding tools from 2003 (which runs on a different variant of the same engine as Kong. they didn't work too well, but were kinda insightful). I don't remember what the exact split was besides that the modding tools got very little use, and I probably narrowly avoided downloading a virus. Just be warned, should you use these tools in multiplayer games, you may get banned by an overzealous anti-cheat. Which might be a good thing, depending on the game.
2) Rendering transparency (regarding the call of duty tweet thing): It's one of those things for which we have a lotta good-enough "solutions", but still no silver bullet - and when you discover this, it's probably because it's screwing you in some way. Once you notice sorting artifacts in games, you will never unsee them.
