The KTM 500 EXC-F is maybe the best dual sport on the market right now in terms of pure performance. It's lightweight, powerful, and surprisingly easy to ride. BUT the big elephant in the room is the KTM 500 EXC F reliability and maintenance concerns. Is the extra KTM 500 EXCF off road performance worth the additional hassle? I wanted to test ride and find out for myself.
One of the biggest takeaways from my KTM EXC-F test ride was the fact that while this bike is not at all comfortable, it is surprisingly easy to ride. It's so light and nimble and has virtually unlimited power on demand. I've long been a proponent of Japanese motorcycles for their cheap ownership cost, low maintenance requirements, and overall reliability and I stand by those opinions, but for someone looking for the ultimate do it all dual sport motorcycle (and someone who isn't as concerned about maintenance and other costs) you simply cannot beat the KTM 500 EXC-F.
My initial KTM 500 EXCF review is an overwhelmingly positive one. In terms of pure capability and rideability, it's hard to beat a KTM EXC. If you're looking for a comfortable, reliable, or inexpensive dual sport, this bike isn't for you, but if you don't mind spending the money and being uncomfortable in the name of performance, there really isn't a better dual sport motorcycle out there.
