Episode 1: Ladakh Road Trip - From Srinagar to Leh
In our first episode of the Ladakh road trip, a journey we had planned for a long time, we finally embarked on our adventure during the monsoon season. We chose the Srinagar to Leh route over Manali because the roads are better, and the gradual increase in altitude reduces the chances of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Sonmarg
Our first beautiful stop was Sonmarg. Here, we visited the stunning Thajiwas Glacier. After spending a day in Sonmarg, we continued our journey towards Leh.

Zoji La Pass and Kargil War Memorial
On the way, we crossed the Zoji La Pass, a high mountain pass, and visited the Kargil War Memorial, paying our respects to the brave soldiers.

Mulbekh Village
We spent a night in Mulbekh Village, where we explored the Mulbekh Monastery, known for its impressive rock-carved Buddha statue. The monastery is an ancient and significant site, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Fotula Pass and Lamayuru Monastery
Next, we crossed Fotula Pass, the highest pass on the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH1). We then visited the Lamayuru Monastery, an ancient monastery known for its picturesque setting. Here, we also saw the Moonland.

Moonland: Moonland is famous for its unique, moon-like landscape. This unusual formation is due to centuries of erosion and the unique climatic conditions in the region, giving it a surreal, otherworldly appearance.

Sangam and Magnetic Hill
Continuing our journey, we visited the Sangam, the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers. We admired the view from the Sangam viewpoint. Following this, we experienced the Magnetic Hill, an optical illusion where vehicles seem to defy gravity and roll uphill.

Arrival in Leh
Finally, we reached Leh, marking the end of this episode. In the next episode, we will explore Leh in detail.
