2. SOUNDBITE (English) David Lammy, UK foreign minister:
"I've just had a very good first meeting with (US Vice President) JD Vance. We built on the meeting that we had last year and the special relationship that the United States and the UK enjoy and I was very encouraged in our conversations about Ukraine. All of us have this desire to bring this horrendous war to an end. We share the view that there has to be an enduring peace. We recognise that this can't be Minsk 3.0. This has to be a serious negotiated peace and there was an agreement that (Ukrainian President, Volodymyr) Zelenskyy and the Ukrainians have to be part of that negotiated deal. Negotiations have not yet begun. These are talks, if you like, about talks and we will continue to support Ukraine. Britain is committing 3 billion (pounds) a year in military support as long as it lasts and of course Europe has stepped on the humanitarian and aid front, now leading the world combined. And so for all of those reasons, it's important that we redouble our efforts at this time, notwithstanding our desire, of course, to see a negotiated peace and to see (Russian President, Vladimir) Putin end this imperial war."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) David Lammy, UK foreign minister:
"You know what we know is that there are 45,000 casualties a month in Ukraine. Of course this is a war, an imperial war, that we must bring to an end. It is not surprising that Donald Trump wanted to speak to Vladimir Putin and indeed wanted to speak to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but these are just talks at the moment. We are some way from a negotiated peace and having just come back from Kyiv and seen the devastating destruction, missiles fired on civilian homes, missiles fired on energy supplies, I think there's much to do to bring about that negotiated peace. And what I assure JD Vance is that the UK will continue to support Ukraine in all efforts militarily, 3 billion pounds a year for as long as it lasts, but that we will continue to work in our special relationship with the United States to bring this conflict, of course, to a peaceful negotiated end and to provide Ukraine the necessary security guarantees that of course you would expect to see across the allied community."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) David Lammy, UK foreign minister:
"You know when I shared a stage with JD Vance last year at the Munich Security Conference we agreed that Europe has to do more. You know, it wasn't that long ago it was just the United States, the UK and one other spending more than 2% of their GDP on defence. It's now 23 countries but we've got to do better over this next period and we in the UK have been absolutely clear that we will increase defence spending over this next period. We're also clear, of course, not just on defence spending but on the commitment to NATO, and it was good to see the Americans reaffirm that commitment to NATO. All of us acknowledge that there are real challenges in the Indo-Pacific. It is why we're working with the Americans and the Australians on AUKUS and the next generation of defensive capability in that region. So, all of us in Europe recognise the urgency of the Indo-Pacific. That is why there has to be more burden sharing here in Europe and across the European family."
