Laying the Table | Wacky and whimsical Christmas | V&A

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Festive, frivolous, decked in sparkles – everyone loves an over-the-top table at Christmas. We sent Assistant Curator Iona out on a mission to find the most wacky, whimsical objects which scream Christmas in our collection, so we could lay our very own eclectic table. From a giant soup tureen shaped like a chicken (!), to an ornate hot chocolate cup and flambéed Christmas pudding plates designed by Eric Ravilious (move over Mary Berry), marvel at some of our favourite festive fare, with a little help from Noel the suckling pig. If you have anything which beats this at home, take us on in the comments... 🔥 00:00 The aim of the game 00:53 Mystery biscuit postbox tin 02:22 PSA: GLOVES 02:54 Extravagant hot chocolate cup 04:29 Huge glögg pot 06:03 Trompe l'oeil ceramics (feat. giant chicken) 08:45 Flaming Christmas pudding plate and gravy boat by Eric Ravilious 09:58 Tiny travelling cutlery set 11:25 Grape scissors, nut pick and nut cracker set (extra 💅) 13:00 Jane Austen-esque port decanter 13:58 Your wacky objects? 14:39 Bloopers ✨ Subscribe for more 'Laying the Table' films ✨ See more Christmas films in our Christmas collection: https://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/christmas-2023 See our metalwork collection: https://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/metalwork See our ceramics collection: https://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/ceramics
