An important video about the tools and products needed.
In this video, I talk about:
- Hygrometer to check the humidity level
- 99% isopropyl alcohol (91% alcohol or blending solution don’t work well for these techniques)
- Surfaces that can be used:
Synthetic Paper – Nara Papers, Beyond Inks Synthetic Paper
Yupo Paper – Beyond Inks, or any other brands
- Inks: Ranger Inks, Nara Inks, Pinata, Beyond Inks, Copic Ink Refills, Kamenskaya, Octopus fluids, any brand of inks can be used. Some colors or brands perform slightly better, so experiment with different shades and brands.
- Metallic inks: I find that Octopus Fluids Gold Rush gives the best lines. Next best option is Jacquard Pinata Brass.
- Scotch tape by 3M/cello tape to stick the paper to a surface if needed
- Paper towels/facial tissue/kitchen paper/microfiber cloth
- Dryer: Hot air hairbrush or a simple travel hair dryer (low heat and pressure setting, 600 watts or lower)
- Miscellaneous tools: Silicone tip brush, thin synthetic-hair paintbrush, straw, lens blower tool, spray bottle, brush pen filled with 99% IPA, plastic palette
Alcohol-based markers to draw stems or flower centers. Other pens: Zig painty metallic gold, Molotow liquid chrome, Posca pens, Sharpies
- Table leveler (It’s not a compulsory tool to have, if your table is not leveled and you see your inks flowing in one direction, you can raise the level from that side by sticking paper or cardboard pieces)
