Columbia Engineering's Lecture Series in AI explores the most cutting-edge topics in artificial intelligence and brings to campus thinkers and leaders who are shaping tomorrow's landscape in a wide variety of fields. Join us to unravel the complexities and possibilities of AI in today's rapidly evolving world. Ion Stoica is a professor in the EECS Department and holds the Xu Bao Chancellor Chair at the University of California at Berkeley, the Director of Sky Computing Lab, and the Executive Chairman of Databricks and Anyscale. He is currently doing research on AI systems and cloud computing, and his work includes numerous open-source projects such as SkyPilot, vLLM (most popular LLM inference engine), Chatbot Arena (most popular evaluation for LLMs in the wild), Ray (emerging standard for scaling AI workloads used by Open AI to train ChatGPT) and Apache Spark (de-facto standard for big data processing). He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, an Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy, and an ACM Fellow. He also co-founded three companies, Anyscale (2019), Databricks (2013) and Conviva (2006).
