Video displaying my daily use T60/61 Frankenpad made by combining the UXGA-screened 15" T60p with the next-gen T61 motherboard, a very common Frankenpad mod in the online Thinkpad community.
This particular Frankenpad is using an original 2007-7JU 15" T60p chassis, with a 44C3924 new-old stock (NOS) NVIDIA NVS 140M T61 motherboard. The motherboard is running Middleton's BIOS, and has a Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SATA SSD to take advantage of the faster SATA 2 speeds. It also has a MiniPCIe to M.2 E-key adapter that carries an Intel 6E AX210 Wireless card, giving it full 802.11AX connectivity. The CPU installed is an Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X9000 that runs at 2.8GHz, and it also has the maximum 8GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM installed. The UXGA display is also quite an upgrade, not just the desirable UXGA Flexview option offered on the 15" T60p but this Frankenpad uses an HV150UX2-100, a display never originally offered in a Thinkpad that had an LED backlight by factory design. This display was supplied by forum member TuuS and the mod adapting it to work in the Frankenpad was performed by RBS (RealBlackStuff).
The T60/61 Frankenpad (also known as the "T601F") is a common mod that involves transplanting a 4:3 T61 motherboard into an earlier 15" T60 chassis, granting newer gen hardware while still preserving the 15" chassis and display, a configuration that was dropped on the newer T61 model. Because the 14" and 15" T60 shares a lot of components, and the 14" T60 and T61 are almost exactly the same, this mod is almost a straight swap except for some minor modification needed to the 15" T60's magnesium cage. Unlike many other Frankenpad mods, this preserves much of the originality and functionality of the 15" T60 Thinkpad and maintains the robust and rigid build characteristic of Thinkpads at the time.
