Progress Singapore Party NCMP Leong Mun Wai attributes Singapore’s low total fertility rate to socio-economic conditions shaped by government policies.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 5) during a motion, he urged the government to “reset and reimagine” its policies to foster a family-friendly environment.
He outlined six proposals: enhancing job security and financial stability, slowing the rising cost of living, increasing subsidies for prenatal and postpartum medical care, boosting workplace support for child caregiving, recognising homemakers’ contributions, and alleviating education-related pressure.
Mr Leong emphasised the urgency of creating a national action plan and proposed an amendment to the motion.
