I’ve been practicing letter carving recently and noticed that many of the seasoned pros use a specific type of chisel: the fishtail chisel. Curious, I did some research to learn more about them.
Instead of buying one, I decided to make my own. For me, it’s always more rewarding and satisfying to create my own tools—it adds a personal touch to the craft. These chisels are particularly unique with their double bevel, functioning almost like a knife, and they work beautifully.
I’ll admit, when I first saw them, I was skeptical. Could they really be better than a standard chisel? The answer is a resounding yes. They’re not only more effective but also feel more natural to use, especially when cutting at an angle.
