Some say it doesn't need saving, but that very much depends on where in the world you live. I'm now on Patreon! For those that don't recognize it, I am using a very similar strategy here to what Sega used for the Genesis in NA. They went after developers primarily known to develop computer games. Much of what was developed in the West was done by these companies. Essentially, I want to start it earlier. 2. I used FM SMS music for the entire video. 3. The handheld you see in the video was actually a prototype for the Nomad. I altered some features to make it my new gray and blue Game Gear. 4. The Game Gear redesign was for practical, cost, and consumer experience. We needed a machine that was cheaper, lasted longer on batteries, and was easier to hold. 5. The only games I canceled were the 3D titles. They were the only games I felt the Master System didn't need. 6. Theoretically, a SMS cartridge adapter would work on the new Game Gear as well. 7. I went after popular computer games of the 80s because I feel they would look great on the Master System with its color capabilities. I really think many of them would see major visual upgrades. 8. I wanted to make advertising and investment in the brand a big part of Sega's NA strategy. I feel they really dropped the ball here. They needed to dig in deep, establish an American arm, and start developing games much earlier than they did originally. I think this would have really helped the Genesis eventually. 9. It pained me to lose the cards on the Master System but I think they work much better with the Game Gear. More portable, better looking, and more appropriate for portable game design(ROM size). 10. A number of comments mention the box art for Master System titles. I feel a stronger 3rd party presence fixes this on its own. As in many PAL 3rd party releases, the box art was significantly better.
