Tondo's Smokey Mountain was once a notorious garbage dump and informal settlement area in Manila, Philippines. It became infamous for its large-scale waste disposal and the living conditions of the people who resided there, many of whom lived in extreme poverty. The community, built on and around the mountain of trash, had a population of thousands of families who would scavenge through the waste to find recyclable materials or items that could be sold. Despite the challenging circumstances, the residents of Smokey Mountain developed a strong sense of community, with many forming tight-knit networks to survive and improve their situation.
