On 16 November we went on a bush braai at Crocodile Bridge. Before the braai we had a sunset safari. At about 17:21 we were informed by another visitor to the Park about lions just south of the H5 on the H4-2. We found a couple of lions busy moving South towards a loop about 300m south of the H5. We lost sight of them and continued towards an active Hyena den 500m north of the H5. We went back to where we thought the lions were going, the loop. We arrived about 17:45 at the furthest end of the loop. As we were about to turn around we heard a commotion which sounded like a Hippo. What we saw was about 17 lions attacking a lone buffalo. We were the only vehicle on the sight. Most of them were sub adults. The attack continued for about 10 minutes when other vehicles arrived. At about 17:55 a group of 8 buffalo responded to the cries of the buffalo being attacked and chased of the lions where they ended up in an open area where a standoff between the lions and buffalos lasted about 15 minutes with the lions charging and then buffalos charging. Another group of four lions also heard the commotion and approached the standoff but were quickly chased off by the original pride of lions. The buffalos saw an opportunity to make their escape. The buffalo whom was originally attacked, weakened by his injuries got left behind. The lions re-grouped and launched another attack closed to the H4-2 at about 18:21. They brought it down and kept it down. At about 16:36 we left sighting due to darkness. No sound came from the buffalo and we believe it was killed.
