#MyELTOC Litty-gritty: Reading as a non-cognitive skill How can we get students to read more? The value of extensive reading is well known, but despite the best efforts of teachers and parents, many students are reluctant readers. In this talk, Ed Dudley will be considering the surprising benefits that can be reaped by conceding that reading is a chore for many students, and using that as a basis for developing important non-cognitive skills such as resilience and grit. Speaker Bio: Ed Dudley is a professional development manager for Oxford University Press where he works on developing the Oxford Teachers’ Academy courses. He has extensive experience of training, teaching and materials writing. He is the co-author of Mixed-Ability Teaching (OUP, 2016) and the author of ETpedia Teenagers (Pavilion Publishing, 2018). https://elt.oup.com/feature/global/eltoc/
