The highly anticipated IBF heavyweight title bout between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker, scheduled for February 22, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has been canceled due to Dubois withdrawing because of illness. In response, Martin Bakole has stepped in as a last-minute replacement to face Parker. This unexpected change has altered the event’s lineup, with Bakole and Parker now competing for the WBO interim heavyweight title. Dubois, who became the IBF champion after a notable victory over Anthony Joshua in September 2024, was set for his second title defense against Parker. However, his sudden illness led to his withdrawal just days before the fight. Parker, a former WBO heavyweight champion, expressed understanding of Dubois’s decision, acknowledging the importance of competing only when in peak physical condition. Martin Bakole, hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has an impressive record of 21 wins, 16 by knockout, and only one loss. Despite the short notice, Bakole accepted the challenge, eager to seize this significant opportunity. Promoter Ben Shalom praised both fighters for their readiness and willingness to ensure the event proceeds as planned. The main event of the Riyadh card remains the rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed light-heavyweight title. Despite the changes in the lineup, the event promises to deliver high-caliber boxing action to fans worldwide.
