Do I want them, or do I want to be with them? This confusion about attraction could be gender envy, shown in the anime Princess Jellyfish with Tsukimi and Kuranosuke, in this analysis video essay.
Princess Jellyfish is about as close to a transgender anime as possible, discussing gender envy, its overlap with attraction or romance, and how validation and dysphoria come from strange places and happen to everyone. As the two main characters, Tsukimi, a NEET girl, and Kuranosuke, a cross dressing man, form their romance, an analysis is formed on these concepts. They each struggle with identity, and find both jealousy and validation in the other’s feelings. This anime video essay, and personal story, is an analysis on these two characters, so that we can better understand Princess Jellyfish, as well as ourselves.
