The #AMG GT 63 Coupe is here, but it has confused journalists and customers alike, as this isn't just an update—it's a complete transformation of purpose from the previous car. Unlike the previous purer #AMGGT 2 door RWD sports car, this first car in the series seems much more geared to be the ultimate daily sports car and family-friendly supercar.
The #MercedesAMG GT 63 uses the familiar 585HP V8 engine sharing lineage with the best of AMG’s recent V8 past, and comes in other power flavours that we will also go over. It’s also 4matic for the first time, so AWD, which helps with breadth of ability and speed but adds weight. Speaking of which, it’s a much bigger car, with a second row of seating and a huge boot. It also employs a new advanced semi-active suspension, in order to counter this and maintain sporting ability.
Now while all of these things can be viewed as a negative. In living with it, it’s actually these changes that have probably made it an even better GT car. Over the past week, I’ve tested this car in every scenario—twisty B-roads, motorways, and everyday family tasks—to see if it’s the perfect mix of performance and practicality. Is it still "SO AMG," or has it lost its edge? Let’s find out.
