Judith Rakers is on vacation in the Lüneburg Heath. In late summer, the landscape is transformed into a bright purple sea of heather blossoms. (Further episodes in the ARD media library: https://1.ard.de/wunderschoen-lueneburger-heide?yt=t) A unique spectacle that Judith Rakers cannot miss. It uses the short heather blossom season - rule of thumb: from 8.8. until 9.9. - and explores the gently rolling landscape between Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover by Bulli, on foot and on horseback.

On her trip, Judith Rakers tries out some of the many hiking and riding trails, visits a Lego farm in the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg and distils gin with heather herbs while listening to classical music. Not only a herb hike on the edge of a NATO military training area is adventurous, but also their first attempt at carving with a chainsaw. In the barefoot park in Egestorf, she experiences the Lüneburg Heath with all her senses. And when taking pictures at dawn, there is an almost mystical atmosphere.
Sandy heaths and pine forests characterize the landscape of the Lüneburg Heath. Its sandy soils, flat areas, and soft forest floors are popular with hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders alike. During the flowering period in late summer, countless covered wagons and carriages pull across the yellow sandy paths. Riding stables offer day and multi-day rides through the heath. In addition to almost 1,500 kilometers of bridle paths, there are also countless hiking trails in the nature reserves. The most famous and awarded by the German Hiking Association is the Heidschnuckenweg. The 223 kilometers between Hamburg and Celle are among the most beautiful in Germany.
