Risto Ulmala was the most succesful Finnish distance runner in the early 1990s (6th and 8th place at the European championships 5000 metres in 1990 and 1994, 7th place at the World championships 5000 metres in 1991). This document follows his training for the Barcelona 1992 Olympics, where he failed to qualify to the finals in the 10000 and 5000 metres, partially due to illness which hampered his training that year.
