Watch the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, and Department of Ecology’s Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve as they share information on their agency roles in the European green crab response that includes more than 40 co-managers, tribes and other partners working together to solve a common problem. Collective action to address European green crab have resulted in the removal of more than 1.5 million invasive crabs since a January 2022 Governor’s emergency proclamation. This webinar covers the economic and environmental risks posed by European green crab, state agency response actions, progress to date and lessons learned at local, state, and regional scales. Additionally, speakers provide a vision of the future through a newly released six-year management plan which includes recommendations and actions such as ongoing management, key research and additional partnerships to reach success. The webinar concludes with how the public can help prevent and stop this invasive species, contributing to the overall effort.
