On this test route my student failed as she didn’t speed up after joining the dual carriageway making the bus behind slow down. It’s really important when you are joining any new road to make sure you aren’t slowing down the traffic behind. So once you join the new road and if the road is clear you must speed up.
Her second serious fault was sudden drop of speed. It’s important to always be aware of the road conditions, as you head towards St Mary’s roundabout it is downhill so she had gone over the speed limit slightly so to bring her speed down she pressed on the brake too long which took her speed down to 24 mph. In this case the bus was right behind her and resulted in him having to brake and eventually he overtook her and honked his horn.
If you find yourself going over the speed limit a slight touch on the brake will slow you down but pressing the brake down too long will result in your speed dropping too much.
Sudden speed drop in very serious and before slowing down you should always check your centre mirror to see if/who is behind you.
