This video in our Ecological Forecasting lecture series features Barbara Han introducing the basic concepts and approaches to using Machine Learning in ecological data analysis and forecasting. Key applications of Machine Learning include classification, clustering, dimension reductions, and regression. We summarize examples of how Machine Learning approaches have been used in ecology to make predictions, focusing in particular on disease ecology (e.g. identifying potential rodent zoonotic reservoirs). Also discussed are diagnostics such as AUC and out-of-sample validation.
