Learn to make a macrame wall plant hanger using larks head knots, alternating square knots, double clove hitch knots and a gathering knot.

Materials:
Stick or dowel rod (about 19 in or 48 cm)
3mm single strand cotton string (16 strings at about 165 in or 419 cm)
Scissors
Plant pot

Directions:
1. Cut a piece of string to about 18-20 inches or 46-51 cm. Tie the string to each end of your stick or dowel rod with a double knot. You can also hot glue this knot to the stick for extra security.

2. Cut 16 pieces of string to about 165 inches or 419 cm. Attach each string to the stick with a larks head knot.

3. Use all the strings to create a row of eight square knots.

4. Leave out two strings on each side to create a row of 7 square knots.

5. Leave out four strings on each side to create a row of 6 square knots.

6. Leave out six strings on each side to create a row of 5 square knots.

7. Leave out eight strings on each side to create a row of 4 square knots.

8. Leave out ten strings on each side to create a row of 3 square knots.

9. Leave out twelve strings on each side to create a row of two square knots.

10. Create one final square knot in the center.

11. Use the right most string to create a line of diagonal clove hitch knots toward the center of the triangle.

12. Use the left most string to create a line of diagonal clove hitch knots toward the center of the triangle.

13. Make one last diagonal clove hitch knot to close the triangle.

14. Make a row of square knots underneath the diagonal clove hitch knots.

15. Make one additional square knot in the center.

16. Create another row of diagonal clove hitch knots on each side and close in the center.

17. Bring the right most string and the left most string around to the front and center of the design to be the filler strings for the first square knot. Bring the second string on the right and the second string on the left around as the working strings on the first square knot. Form a square knot.

18. Bring the third and fourth strings on the right around to create a square knot underneath and to the right of the first square knot.

19. Bring the third and fourth strings on the left around to create a square knot underneath and to the left of the first square knot.

20. Create a row of three square knots by bringing around the fifth and sixth strings on the left and right.

21. Create a row of four square knots by bringing around the seventh and eighth strings on either side.

22. Create a row of three square knots underneath the previous row by leaving out two strings on either side.

23. Create a row of two square knots by leaving out four strings on either side.

24. Create one square knot in the center to complete the diamond.

25. Cut a piece of string to about 24 inches or 61 cm. Use this string to create a gather knot.

26. Trim the fringe to the desired length.
