Kombucha is cheap and easy to brew!
Steep 7 tea bags and 1 cup of cane sugar in a half gallon of filtered water for at least 10 minutes. Remove tea bags. Add another half gallon of cold filtered water. Let cool to room temperature. Add 1 cup of starter. Stir. Add your SCOBY and cover your jar with cheese cloth. Let it ferment in a warm spot 70° 80° out of direct sunlight for around 7 days. It will be done when it no longer smells sweet. It will have a vinegar smell to it. Remove your SCOBY and at least 1 cup of your freshly brewed tea into your SCOBY hotel. Store in a cool, dark spot or start a new batch. Add fruit to your bottles, then add your tea. Let that sit on your counter for up to 4 days for its second ferment. Pop your tops to release carbonation daily. Put your bottles in the fridge to chill. Enjoy!
If you decide to take a break from brewing, don't forget to feed your SCOBY by steeping 2 or 3 tea bags in 2 cups of water and 2Tbls of cane sugar. Let cool, and add to your SCOBY hotel to keep it happy and healthy. Questions? Just ask.
