How to make a travisher for shaping windsor chair seats - covers blacksmithing and woodworking from start to finish so you have a working tool for next to nothing! I already have a basic travisher for shaping windsor chair seats, but I wanted to have a go at making one with a slightly different curvature to the blade. At the time I had fairly limited blacksmithing tools, so I had to make do with an old shoe last as my anvil, and with a gas torch as my forge. I used carbon 01 tool steel to make the blade, tempering it in cooking oil, and quenching it in water. I made the tool body from brown oak, securing the blade with a couple of coach bolts and large washers. I have been surprised at how well this toll has kept its edge, and it is not only extremely effective in use, but an absolute pleasure to use.
