This video documents my first attempt at making a saxophone mouthpiece by hand from a solid piece of hard rubber.
Total construction time: 16 hours (over 2 days)
I filmed the entire process, which gave me quite a challenge to edit down 16 hours of raw footage to about 20 minutes.
No play testing was done during the sculpting process aside from the quick reed test you see in the video, and no modifications whatsoever were made to the piece after playing it for the first time. This is not the typical process for dialing in a mouthpiece but I wanted the additional challenge.
