By the 1890s, women found a new fashion trend in suits and tailored garments for every day wear. They could leave off the heavier and fussier dresses in exchange for a simple, but stylish, wool suit that would last them far longer. But, as always, the Victorian era had a less than positive response to this fashion trend. Assuming it meant a massive societal shift in women's way of life, they connected the suit to "mannish" women, suffrage, and all types of feminism.
