A Stirling engine is a heat machine that operates with a temperature difference applied externally to the engine. It differs from an internal combustion engine (ICE) in that it operates in a closed loop. A certain amount of special gas is put into the engine and turned off. The Stirling engine is also known as the hot air engine. Stirling engines are used in low-power aviation engines, marine engines, heat pumps, combined heat and power systems. Today, it is mostly used to generate electrical energy in solar panel fields.
it was invented in 1816 by the Scottish priest Reverend Robert Stirling.
