This video continues my series on reproducing the contents of the Mastermyr Chest, a viking age blacksmiths tool chest that was found in 1936 in Gotland.
This hammer is listed as #67, weighs 407g and is ~14cm by 2.5 x 25cm.
My version weighs in at (at this stage, faces are not dressed as yet) 401g and is ~13cm x 2.4 x 2.5cm. So will finish a little under weight.
It is made from wrought iron and 19th century spring steel for the faces to try to keep it as authentic as possible within the constraints of using modern forges, but minimal power tools (no power hammer!). The second installment in this one will cover heat treatment, dressing the faces and hanging on a handle.
