Do you like desserts with a traditional flavour? Well, check out this nuns' delicacy, a very old recipe that is very simple and that you will have ready in 10 minutes.

Nuns have been the creators of many of the classic sweets that we have in the pastry of our country. They have saved and transmitted recipes from antiquity.

A very simple dessert of medieval origin.

Also called white delicacy, due to the colour given to it by the three main ingredients with which it is cooked, this is a very old sweet of those that have their origins in medieval convents.

Ideal to eat with the family, as a dessert or even at snack time for children, as it is very nutritious, this dish is, in addition to being simple and very quick to make, super cheap.

On the other hand, since it is made with rice flour, a food that does not contain gluten, it is perfect for people with celiac disease or who must eliminate this protein from their diet.

And, when preparing it, a note: once in the pot, keep in mind that you must stir it every now and then with a whisk or a spatula so that it does not stick to the bottom. This way you will have a divine dessert.

Manjar de monjas for 4 people

Ingredients:
-1 liter of milk
-200 grams of rice flour
-200 grams of sugar
-2 cinnamon sticks
-Honey
-Ground cinnamon

Step by step

-Mix the flour and sugar

-Place the rice flour and sugar in a bowl and stir well with a whisk until they are well mixed.

-Add the milk

-Add a little milk and stir until well combined and no lumps remain.

-Cook in a saucepan

-Pour the mixture into a saucepan, add the rest of the milk and the cinnamon sticks and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 8 minutes or until the mixture has thickened.

-Serve in bowls

-Distribute the delicacy in different bowls. Add a splash of honey to each bowl and sprinkle with a little cinnamon powder. Let it cool and serve.

You will see that, when you try it, the flavor of the manjar de monjas will remind you a lot of rice pudding. But its gelatinous texture is more similar to that of fried milk. In any case, it is delicious!

Suggestions to make the manjar de monjas even tastier:

-When serving, decorate the dessert with a little lemon or orange zest. You can also add some chopped fruit pieces. For example, it will be very delicious with strawberries, blackberries, apples, peaches... or some currants.

-Replace the honey with a splash of liquid caramel, red fruit jam or a little melted chocolate.

-If you want it to have a crunchy touch, add some chopped walnuts, some pieces of Maria biscuits or chocolate pearls.
