During the filming of the movie "Gettysburg" in 1992, Robert E. Lee's Headquarters was part of a modern motel complex. Thanks to the members and supporters of the American Battlefield Trust, in 2016 this portion of the Gettysburg Battlefield was saved and transformed back to its original 1863 landscape. For the first time, Martin Sheen visits the Mary Thompson House with Kris White, where Lee stood over 160 years ago.
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
