Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Kia ora! Welcome to Better Ancestors, and our weekly video series throughout 2021. This series is dedicated to telling the stories of those amazing people in our world who are trying to be better ancestors to future generations. The planet is experiencing catastrophic environmental disaster, and it is up to us to think long term and take action to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for all of humanity. Using the stories of those already leading the charge in sustainability as inspiration, we should all ask ourselves, what can I do to be a better ancestor? In episode 1, Better Ancestors goes to Banks Peninsula to meet Hugh Wilson, the kaitiaki (manager) of Hinewai Reserve. For 30 years, Hugh has overseen the regeneration of native flora at Hinewai and the transformation of the landscape from farmland to forest. This episode explores the importance of biodiversity and carbon sequestration, and shows how the work Hugh has done has provided a blueprint for others who wish to become involved. In this episode we also meet Warren Begley, who is using the groundwork Hugh has provided to help oversee the initial stages of regeneration on several other plots of land in Banks Peninsula.
