Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) was one of France's greatest composers, often considered (along with Claude Debussy) as a leading figure of musical Impressionism. Ravel was particularly noted for his skill in orchestration - exemplified by "Ma mère l'Oye", which was written for piano in 1910 and orchestrated the following year. Each of the five movements was inspired by a French fairy tale.
