Max Bruch's grandiose violin concerto in G minor is often coupled with Mendelssohn's violin concerto, as if it were a secondary work. Although Mendelssohn's concerto is a pure masterpiece and occupies the podium of the four great violin concertos alongside Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky, we wanted Bruch's concerto to be published as a work in its own right, as it fully deserves it. Moreover, the recording of Itzhak Perlman for EMI with the Concertgebouw conducted by Bernard Haitink has dominated the discography for decades. It is a model of suppleness, tension and nobility.
