Legendary Dressmaker Thelma Madine has taken on some Gypsy trainees...
Known for creating some of the most elaborate outfits ever (as seen in Big Fat Gypsy Weddings), Thelma is expanding and to give something back to the community that has made her name, she is taking on inexperienced trainee Gypsy and Traveller girls as apprentice dress makers.
In Episode 6:
The girls are tasked with one last challenge and are asked to design their own dresses to reveal on a catwalk in front of their friends and family.
For design inspiration, the girls are taken to a fashion museum but the cultural differences between travellers and non-travellers is all too apparent and an event leaves the girls shocked and angry.
As the girls literacy and numeracy lessons draw to a close, Thelma discovers the incredible transformation in her trainees; how much the course has affected their lives and the dramatic progress in their education.
And a surprising late twist, two of Thelma’s girls leave the course and the rest of the trainees hold a fabulous final fashion show, showcasing everything they have learned so far.
All that remains for Thelma to do is pick who she will give the coveted jobs too…
