The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) defends the nation and sometimes provides disaster relief to protect the people. This spring, 59 "Self-Defense Force cadets" were training at the Shindayama Garrison of the Ground Self-Defense Force in Izumi City, Osaka. Their backgrounds are varied, including high school graduates, former childcare workers, and unemployed. The source of their energy for the daily grueling training is the canteen at the garrison. The "milli-meshi," a meal that is important to nourish their energy and stamina, is the focus of attention!
