The 11th ranked Georgetown Hoyas defeated the 3rd ranked UConn Huskies 77-65 at the USAir Arena in Landover, MD. Brad Nessler and Dick Vitale have the call. After leading 14-11 six minutes into the game, Georgetown used a 16-1 run to open a commanding lead for the half. The Hoyas caused 12 Husky turnovers in the first half. UConn was able to get the lead down to 10 points (67-57) during the second half but the Hoyas' Jerry Nichols hit a pair of 3FGs to effectively put the game away. Allen Iverson lead all scorers with 26 pts along with 8 steals and 6 assists, while the Georgetown front court of Othella Harrington, Jerome Willams and Boubacar Aw combined for 15-24 shooting. Doron Sheffer lead the Huskies with 23 pts, and Travis Knight had 10 rebounds. Ray Allen was held to 11 pts by a rotating cast of Hoya defenders - he would play much better in the rematch at the Big East tournament finals several weeks later (https://youtu.be/5uef8OreJPE). Notes: - I only found a low-quality version of this game on YouTube, so I'm posting the best version I have. Apologies if a high-quality version is already available. - The final 12 minutes of the game is from a slightly less pristine copy, appended due to some technical issues on my end.
