If you're in the market for a city car with hybrid levels of fuel efficiency, there's arguably never been a better time to buy such a new vehicle than right now. Case in point: the 2025 MG3 Hybrid+ has just gone on sale, with it quickly followed by the new Suzuki Swift Hybrid – although these two models are not created equally.
On one hand, the MG3 Hybrid is motivated by a 'self-charging' series-parallel hybrid powertrain, whereas the cheekily named Swift Hybrid just features 12V mild-hybrid technology. Both help to lower petrol consumption, but only the former follows the precedent set by the popular Toyota style of system.
Either way, in this expert comparison review, CarsGuide Deputy Editor James Cleary puts the MG3 Hybrid+'s entry-level Excite variant up against the Swift Hybrid's mid-range Plus version to find out which one performs better in the real world and, ultimately, offers buyers better value for money.
