Michael Owen’s career took him from winning the Balon D’or, no English player has won it since, after exploding onto the scene as a teenager with Liverpool and the England national team, to becoming a Galactio with Real Madrid and then back to the Premier League with Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City.
Although injuries eventually took their toll on the once pacey and tricky striker, Owen remains one of the most decorated English players to play football and his tally of 40 goals in 89 England caps has made him the 5th highest goalscorer in the national team’s history.
A player who often did not receive the credit he deserved and plagued by injuries at an earlier age than most, some of Owen’s best moments are captured in this video.
