I have owned my Sieg x2.7l milling machine for about 4 months, and I have been very impressed with its capabilities. However, as much as I like to modify any import machines that I get, I have not done anything to my mill.
In this video I will start to improve and upgrade my mill, starting with two very overdue mods. I have bought an import (4 inch, Chinese vise) mill vise vise to replace the drill press vise that came with the mill. Not only should it be more rigid, but it should have a lot less deflection in the jaw. I also had to buy a set of parallels in order to use the new vise.
I also have bought a DRO (Digital Readout) and I will be installing it on the mill table. Dealing with backlash in two direction is not an intuitive thing to do repeatedly, so a DRO will make my life a lot easier, although making the brackets and installing it was not easy.
