Len Barker never gets out of the first inning, giving up 4 runs on 5 Tiger hits, including an 2-RBI triple from Kirk Gibson which took Barker out of the game, and replaced by veteran left-hander John Henry Johnson as Brewers bounce back with a pair of runs in the 5th on a 2-run HR from RF Glenn Braggs (7), then take the lead in the 7th inning scoring 3 runs on a Cecil Cooper 3-run HR (5) and removing Walt Terrell in the 8th .Terrell goes 7 complete innings giving up 5 runs on 6 Brewers hits while striking out 4 and walking 2.
with the 5-5 tie going into extra innings, in the Brewers 10th they come up with 3 runs as the Tiger bullpen falls apart, with Eric King allowing a few men on, (including a base on balls to Rob Deer) King is then replaced by Left-hander Mark Thurmond to pitch to C BJ Surhoff who promptly hits a 3-run HR to give Milwaukee the 8-5 lead and the victory.
