The Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) should have been clearer in its policy communications in July 2024 regarding the use of NRIC numbers. In addition, there were also internal shortcomings within the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) in sharing and acting on the information from MDDI. These were some of the several shortcomings on the part of both MDDI and ACRA that led to the public disclosure of full NRIC numbers on the Bizfile people search portal in December 2024, said Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean.
A review into the incident was conducted and Mr Teo detailed the panel's findings in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6). He added that the review was not a disciplinary process and that any disciplinary action, if warranted, in relation to individual officers will need to be conducted in accordance with the applicable frameworks and processes.
