The Kisoji area was hit by a heavy snowfall due to the effects of the strongest and longest cold wave.
The record-breaking snowfall continued for four days.
Then, on February 8th, the “Ice and Snow Lantern Festival” was held in Magome-juku.
It was a collaboration of the heaviest snowfall in decades and the “Ice and Snow Lantern Festival”, which is held only once a year.
On top of that, we were lucky enough to see the blue sky at dusk, and the scenery was spectacular 😃
On the way, we also visited a famous spot on the Nakasendo hiking course between Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku, called the Samurai Road.
On this day, we could see the footprints of the fighters who had walked the 9km of the heavy snowfall 😱
