The Ice Plant at Doyang Reservoir, with a 5 MT capacity and under the Department of Fisheries, has been non-operational since its completion in 2012, despite its potential to benefit the state. The facility has never been utilized, raising concerns among officials.

During the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) monthly meeting on February 11, the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources provided an update on the plant's status. In response, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, urged the Department of Fisheries to draft a proposal for the plant’s restoration.

On February 12, Yanthan, accompanied by Vineet Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, personally inspected the Ice Plant. Speaking to the media, Yanthan explained the reasons behind the plant’s prolonged inactivity. He noted that the facility remained unused due to the lack of essential water and electricity connections. "These basic provisions should have been included in the Detailed Project Report (DPR), but unfortunately, they were overlooked, leading to a significant loss for the state," he said.

Yanthan expressed frustration over the lack of progress in making the plant operational, especially considering it has been idle for 13 years. He urged the relevant departments to take immediate action to revive the facility, emphasizing that since the land was acquired and infrastructure was built, it is crucial to put the plant to use.

Furthermore, Yanthan highlighted the poor condition of the plant's machinery, which is now largely damaged and obsolete. "Most of the equipment is in disrepair, and some need to be completely replaced," he stated, stressing the urgency of addressing these issues.

Yanthan concluded by underlining the significant loss of resources represented by the plant's inactivity and called for immediate efforts from the concerned departments to restore and operationalize it for the benefit of the state and its citizens.
