Modal analysis is the first step during the dynamic simulation of any component using CAE. This tutorial explains the process to set up and run a modal analysis subcase using the Optistruct solver in Hypermesh.

Also known as normal modes analysis, the main objective of modal analysis is to calculate the natural frequencies of vibration of any given component.
This is usually done using the Real Eigenvalue Extraction method using the EIGRL card.
In this simulation, we will find the first 10 modes of vibration of a steel bracket over the entire frequency spectrum. We will also view the deformation and Elemental Strain Energy (ESE) patterns using Hyperview.
The significance of these results is also explained at the end of the video.
